Oily Skin: Acne Health Tips

by Gerald Steinert

People with oily skin usually suffer from acne. This reality is due to the fact that oily skin produces more sebum than other skin types. Therefore, oily skin is naturally more prone to clogged pores and acne lesions.

The key to dealing with this problem is to establish a regular cleansing routine. Sometimes, when treating mild to moderate cases of acne (these include facial and back acne), a regular cleansing routine can be more effective than over the counter acne creams, however, if you're trying to treat more severe cases of acne, then you will need to have medical supervision.

How to Cleanse Oily Skin

If you have oily skin you can use a soapy cleanser. However, stay away from soaps because they can dry out your skin and are in no way comparable to soapy cleansers. As a matter of fact, if you use a soap and your skin becomes dry, it will break or crack and let in acne bacteria.

The ingredients you want to look for in your soapy cleanser are salicylic acid or retinol. See if you can find your soapy cleanser in a gel form. What these ingredients in effect serve to accomplish is the balancing out of the rate of the shedding of skin cells. It also helps to keep debris from clogging up the pores.

Contrary to popular belief, you can use a natural acne remedy to treat oily skin. One of the best natural cleansers for oily skin is milk of magnesia which can be used by simply rubbing onto your skin and then rinsing off with warm water.

Toning and Exfoliating

An effective daily cleansing routine will also require the use of a toner, however, if the cleanser you are using is good enough to clean your skin then it won't be necessary to tone your skin. If you do decide to use a toner, then make sure that it is alcohol-free.

Unlike toning, you should exfoliate regularly to help remove any stubborn debris. Depending on your age and the state of your skin, you should exfoliate at least once a week. To exfoliate choose a scrub or use a product with salicylic acid.

A scrub is a mechanical exfoliant while salicylic acid is a chemical exfoliant. Both types of products are a good option, but which you choose will depend on your preferences. Don't Forget to Moisturize your Skin ! even if it is Oily

Just by having oily skin should not make you forget about the importance of a moisturizer. The problem with oily skin is excess oil not excess moisture. So look for a moisturizer that is oil free and use it twice daily.
