Write Love Letters Worth Keeping

by Ron Thomson

The art or skill of how to write romantic love letters, in today's technological and modern world, is sadly at risk of fading away. Many people have given up paper letters for electronic mail, and while some people do write romantic emails, they often do not last as long because of computer problems and hard-disk restores.

Historians are ever grateful that in times gone by it was common practice to write love letters to the object of ones affection. This is how we have learned much about the day to day life of real people in the past, as love notes are often a cherished possession, kept for years, even perhaps after the love is gone, the letters remain.

Keep this in mind when you begin to write love letters. Use good quality paper and envelopes, and a pen that will not fade or smudge, and your letters should stand up to being folded and unfolded and reread throughout the years.

Of course, there is still value in a spontaneous note scribbled on some scrap paper or the back of the napkin. Although these proclamations of love may not be as permanent, they still express great joy in the moment, and your beloved will know you thought about them even then, when all you had was a napkin. Another "classic" method, if it suits your style, is lipstick on the mirror.

It is important to take your time as you write love letters. The amount of time you take is as important a part of the gift as the sentiment contained therein. You should be specific, mentioning things that your significant other may not realize you have noticed, perhaps the way they hold a cup, or touch their hair. Think over each sentence before you put it down on paper.

It is always good idea to keep the love letters safely if you are one of those lucky ones to receive them. Even if the love doesn't last, it is wise to keep them somewhere until your heart is healed. Twenty years from now, they will help you to remember those old sweet days.

A well written letter of love will be kept for many years, perhaps decades or longer, and may be passed on as a family heirloom. Perhaps more important, they can bring joy in to your love life right now, and in today's fast paced world, love letters can be an unexpected gift.

Writing love letters is almost a lost art due to technology. Throughout history people have written letters and others have treasured those letters. To write love letters you should take the time to think about what you want to say and use quality materials that will last. That's not to say that spontaneity doesn't have its place. To write romantic love letters all you may need is lipstick on a mirror or the back of a napkin. And it is possible to write romantic emails if one chooses to do so. Despite how you may choose to write them, love letters are always to be cherished.
