The Importance of Comic Book Storage

If you have a valuable comic book collection, there are several ways to store it. Comic book storage is really quite versatile.

The thing to keep in mind, first and foremost, is to store them in containers that were made specifically for this purpose. You want to preserve the paper. Whatever you use to store paper or cardboard needs to be archive quality, that is acid-free and lignin free. Storage devices made from plastic must be PVC-free.

Additionally, make sure that your collection is stored out of direct light, in a climate controlled environment. The average attic is not the place for things like this!

Now, there are many kinds of storage containers available for comic books. Most comic books will be perfectly find slipped inside individual plastic sleeves or acid-free resealable bags. If your comic is especially valuable and special, though, you might want to consider a plastic box made especially for comic book storage. If you're going to seal these bags or sleeves with an adhesive, make certain that the adhesive never touches the comics themselves.

Plastic comic book boxes can be found at collectibles shops or storage and organization stores. Alternatively, you can now find Mylar comic book sleeves that have treated cardboard backing boards, which add a little structure to the container.

Now then, assuming you've stored all your most valuable books in individual containers, it's time to consider how to store the rest of your collection. You'll find that there are lots of different kinds of boxes that you can buy in comic book stores or online. They come in two different sizes. The short ones will holds about 100 books, while the longer ones can hold up to 300.

When you store your comic books, you may want to give some thought as to how you want to organize them. The usual way to organize comic books is by their title, then in chronological order-- specifically based on the publication date. When you have a well-organized comic book storage system, you'll be able to find any issue you want with little effort, whether you wish to read or sell it.
